= EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUD=

 

Ariel Sin-Yu Lee is a singer and flutist from Hong Kong, currently based in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

 

Ariel was awarded the Holland Scholarship by the Dutch government in 2017 and obtained her MMus in Voice degree at the HKU Utrecht Conservatory in 2019. In 2012 she obtained her BA in Music degree in the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

= VOCAL PERFORMING EXPERIENCE=

 

Ariel is an active performer with a broad musical and theatrical interest. She has performed in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, the Netherlands, Belgium and Greece. 

Ariel works with various vocal ensembles and opera companies in the Netherlands including Consensus Vocalis, Beleef Klassiek, Opera Spanga and Dutch Touring Opera.

Ariel was one of the participants in the young talent development programme of the Netherlands Chamber Choir (NKK NXT) in 2020-2021. During this programme, the group of young singers and theater-makers created their own production "BLOOM-a sequence of gathering", and toured with the Dutch pop artist Wende Snijders throughout the Netherlands and Belgium in 2021-2022 in a total of 70 shows. The group later continued as "Immix vocal ensemble". 

Ariel is also the singer and co-founder of the artist collective "Fire is Scary". The collective presents new original music with visual arts and theater elements. Fire is Scary is supported by funds from the Netherlands, South Korea and Switzerland for their performances, album release and artistic research.

- Soloist of Handel’s “Messiah” in 2017 produced by Cantabile in Hong Kong

- the roles of second woman and second witch with the Hong Kong Philharmonic in Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas” under the baton of Benjamin Bayl in 2017

- finalist of Storioni Willem Twee Chamber music Competition in s-Hertogenbosch in 2018

- soloist of the talent opera “To Plant Again” in the Opera Forward Festival by the Dutch National Opera in 2019

- Soloist in the Remembrance Day Concert with SV Hucbald Choir in Utrecht in 2021

- Soloist of “Jerusalem Passion” by Murray Wylie with Stichting JP Muziekproducties

 

= FLUTE PERFORMING EXPERIENCE= 

As a flutist, currently Ariel works as a session musician with various artists, creating improvisational music. She collaborated with the Dutch hip hop artist Sor in the track “Caught up” from the album “Bae Doven” released in May 2022.

 

Ariel started playing the flute at the age of 12 and has extensive performing experience since then in various wind orchestras, orchestras and chamber music as well.

 

Ariel is the co-founder of the chamber music group "The Music Circles" in Hong Kong. Ariel had performed in multiple concerts with the group as a singer and flutist. One of the highlights is the concert series with the Argentinean tango flutist and composer Eduardo Tami in Hong Kong in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Ariel performed as a flutist on numerous tango numbers and original compositions by Tami. 

 

= COACHING/TEACHING EXPERIENCE = 

Besides performing, Ariel has been working extensively as a coach on singing/voice usage and flute since 2012 with students of all ages and musical background, in individual and group basis.

 

Ariel adopts a holistic and interactive approach in her teaching, with the intention to help students to enjoy the joy of music making and to express themselves through music freely & openly.

Ariel is currently the singing teacher of International School Utrecht. She also gives singing and flute lessons privately in Utrecht.
